Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg can be proud tonight

by: Hopeful

Thu Apr 16, 2009 at 09:17:32 PM EDT

One of the four terrible memos released today was written by Jay Bybee, now a judge on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

In the March 2003 Senate vote to confirm Bybee, Senators Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg voted no. Unfortunately only 17 other Democrats joined them, but at least Corzine and Lautenberg can be proud.

How disturbing is it that he is now a judge.

Judge Bybee Must Be Impeached (0.00 / 0)

The "memo" (please do read it for yourself .. http://www.aclu.org/safefree/g... ) is 18 pages of legal misconduct.   It's obvious that he's weasel wording a rationale for precisely torturing someone while artificially separating each element of the torture and explaining it away with legalistic bullshit.

The fact that the CIA claims that the video they shot of the torture is missing is proof that they were and are ashamed of what they have done and/or are afraid that the tape would result in criminal prosecutions and convictions of the perpetrators.

Look, if we're going to torture; then change the law and have a public debate and see if the people who voted for it get re-elected.  We can go that route as a nation if we wish...but to have this evil bastard Bybee coming up with a bullshit memo that says up is down and bad is good and that torture isn't torture is downright insane.

I call upon every member of our NJ congressional delegation to introduce and to support articles of impeachment against this judge, he is either a malevolent monster or his judgment is so screwed up that he's not competent.  Either way he shouldn't be on the federal bench.

Frankly, the people who condoned this torture need to be criminally prosecuted...and the people who carried it out should all be subject to an investigation.

"I was only following orders" " didn't wash foir the Nazis at Nurenburg and it shouldn't let anyone off the hook in the USA.  http://informationclearinghous...

I would urge anyone who wishes to be informed on this subject to pick up a copy of "How to Beak a Terrorist" by Matthew Alexander.   Torture is not only an evil cruel and illicit practice but it's downright stupid and counterproductive.
