How they Voted: FY 2010 Budget

by: Jason Springer

Fri Apr 03, 2009 at 12:30:00 PM EDT

Here's what clammyc said in a post yesterday about the chance before our "moderate" Republican Congressmen:
Now, with President Obama's budget coming up for a vote, another opportunity has presented itself for these three "moderates" to show if they are truly moderate or if they are comfortable being out of the mainstream.
Maybe the no button got stuck, because rather than showing their moderate credentials, they opposed both the President's budget that passed and their own party's effort which failed:

Frelinghuysen
Adler
Andrews
Holt

Pascrell

Democrats are in blue, and Republicans are in red.

The budget passed 233-196 with a party line vote in opposition from the NJ delegation. There were also two Democratic budget alternatives that did not pass. At least the Democrats can say their members sometimes voted for Republican budgets and priorities under President Bush (even when we didn't agree with those votes). This vote is just further evidence that the lack of bipartisanship is a uniquely Republican attribute.

The Republicans couldn't even get the members of their own party to support their version of a budget. Lance, LoBiondo and Smith opposed that reckless effort, but Frelinghuysen and Garrett went along for that ride off the cliff. In fact, 38 GOP lawmakers voted against a plan supported by their own leadership. It appears the party of no can't even figure out how to say yes to their own plans anymore.

a challenge... (0.00 / 0)
you said, "At least the Democrats can say their members sometimes voted for Republican budgets and priorities under President Bush (even when we didn't agree with those votes)."

show me one instance when one NJ Dem voted for a GOP/Bush budget.

say what? (0.00 / 0)
Under the Republican misrule, we didn't have a budget in 2006 so the Democrats had to clean up the mess again without Republican help, so your standing to make a "challenge" is really non-existent.

What is really interesting is that even last year, Frelinghuysen, LoBiondo, Saxton and Smith voted AGAINST both the Republican substitute and the final Democratic budget.

Creed making no sense (0.00 / 0)
Bush/GOP presented 8 budgets.

find me one instance where a NJ Dem voted for any of the GOP-introduced budgets?

simple question -- stop muddying it.

[ Parent ]
they didn't present eight (0.00 / 0)
In 2006, nothing got passed.

Do you believe that any of the GOP budget resolutions should have been supported???

your post when I wrote this last night.  I timed it to go up today and was at work.  Normally I like to promote if I see it.  Thanks for posting on it too.

Moderate (0.00 / 0)
...because rather than showing their moderate credentials, they opposed both the President's budget that passed and their own party's effort which failed

Maybe I'm missing something, but that sounds pretty moderate to me.

if moderate = voted for nothing (0.00 / 0)
It is rather easy to say that you voted against this one or that one but they are paid to make choices.

[ Parent ]
and they did make a choice... (0.00 / 0)
they found each budget, for whatever reasons, did not deserve their support. That's pretty independent/moderate thinking if you ask me...rather than voting for the Dem budget because its by the Dems or the GOP budget because its by the GOP. That's following along...rubber-stamping if you will. And for the record, if you reported the full facts you would have noted that 20 Dems also voted against the Dem budget.

Given the state of our economy and debt levels already with China, President Obama needs to prioritize which area he wants to tackle first...and just do it one at a time, rather than all at the same time. There are massive costs to each policy area (health care, energy/climate change, education)...each are worthy and need to move forward, but we can't afford to go full throttle on all areas at this point in time.

[ Parent ]
nothing realistic about any of it (0.00 / 0)
Just being against everything doesn't help with anything.

It is interesting that no one said that Bush needed to get Bin Laden before doing anything else but went far-right on his entire agenda, but Obama is taking actions that the majority support and people like you want him to go "one at a time."  If anyone actually believed that you say this as a supporter of the President's that would be one thing, but it is obvious that you are not.

[ Parent ]
Do I want him to succeed... (0.00 / 0)
absolutely. The country needs the optimism and change. Was he my candidate in the election, not at all. I thought (and still do) Senator Clinton would have been a better choice for the party. But President Obama is my country's president now and I support that...it doesn't mean I have to fall in line in complete agreement with his decisions.

[ Parent ]
so you actually voted for McCain??? (0.00 / 0)
That says a lot more about you than the rest of us.

What do you think President Hillary Clinton would be doing differently???
