Your liberal media in action

by: Hopeful

Mon Mar 16, 2009 at 01:50:40 AM EDT

I guess Josh Margolin and Ted Sherman shared co-authorship of this article on potential challenges to New Jersey districts so that we wouldn't know who wrote this sentence:

It also reinforced the perception that New Jersey is a solidly Democratic state despite the nearly equal party registrations.

Number of Registered Democrats in New Jersey: 1,782,556
Number of Registered Republicans in New Jersey: 1,055,403

The percentage of 59.2073% is nearly equal in the same way that when the Dow was at 7810 it was "nearly equal" to its 52-week peak of 13,191.

To be fair.... (4.00 / 1)
after the Obama/Clinton primary Democratic registration numbers really jumped, before then it really was fairly close.

Hopeful's right (4.00 / 1)
1.2 million v. 800,000 really wasn't that close either.

Do not forget (0.00 / 0)
The ratio of "D" to "R" to Independent is important.

In 2008 Indies were about 2.5 miillion, in 2004 they were 2.9 million, those 4 million indies are now mostly dem voters, while 3 million new dems were added. While the repubs added about 200k new.

Obviously NJ is trending Blue.

Over the years (0.00 / 0)
2008
Democrats: 33.3% of registered voters
Republicans: 19.7%
Difference: 13.6%

2007
D: 24.3%
R: 18.2%
Diff: 6.0%

2006
D: 23.7%
R: 18.3%
Diff: 5.3%

2005
D: 23.9%
R: 18.5%
Diff: 5.4%

2004
D: 23.2%
R: 17.7%
Diff: 5.6%

Conclusion: The Democrat registration advantage did rise sharply in 2008 as Matthew Jordan alleges, but it existed in a smaller sense in previous years. Whether the difference is "nearly equal" is a matter of perspective.

Try again (0.00 / 0)
not even close.

And what's their conclusion? (0.00 / 0)
It's not a solidly Democratic State? Because, I think most people think it is, even Republicans.

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

Location (0.00 / 0)
I don't know if there was a conclusion--it was a single sentence in the last third of the article.

Good catch Hopeful (0.00 / 0)
That line really bugged me when I read the article.
