Just so y'all know.

We have two gutwrenching, highfalootin', incredibly wonderful podcasts comming up.

Today, Xpatriated Texan is interviewing Rep. Steve Rothman, presumeably at one of his Town Hall Meetings. We will edit the podcast so that it is fully out of context and post it as soon as possible.

Monday, yours truly will be heading over to Linda Stender fundraiser which, ironically, will be held in the same building Dick Cheney was shooting people in the face in. There in the bullet hole laden room, none other than Rep. Rahm Emanuel has agreed to a podcast. This is a great opportunity and we are eternally greatful to the Stender campaign for giving us this chance to interview a high profile national Democratic high roller.

For those who don't know, Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) was Bill Clinton's senior political advisor and is currently in charge of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, a.k.a. the body responsible for taking back the House this year.

Use this as an open thread for collecting questions you would like to ask both Congressman Rothman and Emanuel.

Questions For Emanuel (0.00 / 0)
1. Newsweek said you don't plan to spend any money on ads highlighting the abortion issue.  Yet all indicators are that this is now a good issue for Democrats: Republicans are running away from the South Dakota abortion ban, and SD's governor's approval dropped 14 points after he signed the ban.  Do you now plan to do any advertising at all calling attention to the dangers of bans like South Dakota's (which most Americans disapprove of) or asking Republicans whether they support a total abortion ban?

2. Whereas the Republicans have developed a message machine for calling attention to Democrats' embarrassing comments (and forcing the Dems to apologize), it seems to me the Democrats don't have the same capability.  For example, John Boehner recently said that Senator Feingold was more concerned about the safety of terrorists than the American people -- yet nobody really called attention to this slander until The Daily Show last night.  Do you have any plans on how to get the Republicans' more outrageous or horrible statements (and there are a lot of them) into the media and force Republican candidates to distance themselves from them?

3. Why is there so much reluctance on the part of Democrats to break the "ethics truce" and file ethics complaints against Republicans?  What do you say to the fear of some bloggers that the Republicans might jump the gun and start filing ethics complaints against Democrats (in order to confuse the issue of which is really the "corrupt" party)?

4. The Duckworth/Cegelis primary showed that a candidate with good grassroots operation and online support (Cegelis) can come very close to winning.  Have you set up any mechanisms for working with grassroots/netroots organizations and harnessing their capabilities, the way Republicans work with church groups and so on?

Re: #4 (0.00 / 0)
Doubt if Rahm is setting up any serious "mechanisms" for working with the grassroots, but here in IL many progressives and such have a target on his ass! ;)

Why are you opposed to Jack Murtha's plan?

When he gives the Republican answer I can follow up with:
Is that a Democratic answer?
