Marinol is an alternative (3.00 / 1)

not a "perfect" alternative, but with the relative paucity of studies, it would be difficult to quantify how much benefit for smoked cannabis comes from placebo effects.

That would avoid the scenario that those of us in transportation safety are worried about of drivers claiming that their positive tests come from passive smoke (which scientifically is bovine excrement but allowed under the bill) and with the perception problems that arise from the use of heavy machinery while impaired run over the minivan with their dump truck.

Legalize marijuana and tax it (0.00 / 0)

It's time to legalize marijuana nationally and get the sales tax revenues, as well as possible cigarette taxes.  In California people smoke marijuana openly anyway, because the police don't have the resources to be bothered with every party where someone lights up.  Instead of spending money on law enforcement for a substance less harmful than alcohol, it could be a source of revenue.
