Corzine for Commerce Secretary

by: firstamend07

Maybe Obama should call and maybe Corzine should answer.

Bad polls, bad budget, bad karma!

This way he can leave with dignity and help the President, the Democratic Party can have an open primary between Sweeney, Codey, and whomever else , and the result will be a Democratic nominee for Governor that does not have such negative numbers.

Would Sweeney or Codey be better against Christie?

I think it's a good idea (0.00 / 0)
Is it a step down for Corzine?  I wonder.

Better than having no job (2.67 / 3)
He can save himself $50 million on a reelection campaign that might lead to an embarrassing loss and setback for the State if Christie gets elected.

He helps out Obama, Obama can help campaign for Sweeney, Christie loses his best campaign arguments against Sweeney.

Corzine should be on the phone tonight.

Like the Plague (0.00 / 0)
Democrats appearently don't like primary's.

They will avoid them like the plague. This confounds me given our recent experience with the Mother of All primary's btwn Clinton and Obama. I'd say the party came out the better for it.

What would you rather have , a weak, beaten up Corzine running against Christie or the  victor of a rough and tumble Sweeney/Codey primary going against Christie ?

Corzine has a lot of baggage that will keep him off message with the voters. Just the fact that he, the incumbent,  is behind in the" bluest of blue " states should be sending up red flags all over the Democratic Party.

Codey would have much better numbers (4.00 / 2)
than Sweeney against Christie.

Sweeney vs. Christie (2.50 / 2)
Sweeney would need some major North Jersey support to beat Codey in a primary, but in a general election Sweeney is better positioned to beat Christie.

you forget, Codey was Governor (4.00 / 1)
and had good ratings in general statewide polls. He is popular and supports a lot of candidates and legislators.

Last Wednesday night I went to Sen Loretta Weinberg's birthday party, Both Governor Corzine and Codey were there!

It Ain't Happenin'..... (0.00 / 0)
.....as flawed as Corzine is, and has been; there is still some chance that he might actually adopt the anti-pay to play rhetoric he used in his SOU speech as a substantial and serious agenda.   If he genuinely comes through on that issue; he'll be re-elected in a massive landslide.

I suspect that there are all manner of political machine types who want him out....and have been undermining him since the day he was elected.  These machines are the enemy of all decent humans in our state.

It's a mute point anyway; Obama isn't about to appoint a struggling Corzine after two nominees have already been shot down.   The next nominee will be unassailable (I hope!).

Corzine will have to dig deep to keep his job....and I'm not talking about digging into his bank account.   He needs to understand who his real friends and his real enemies are in NJ.

Weak Candidate (1.00 / 1)
Christie is going to kill Corzine on the economy , justified or not. He is going to kill him on the issue of corruption.

I like the guy but he just comes across as weak and wishy -washy.

When did Corzine get his highest poll numbers? I believe it was when he shut down the State and showed he woudl take no s**t.  The voters are in the mood for change and perceived strength. That is not Corzine.

From March 10 to June 30 he is going to be attacked from all sides. Republicans will kill his budget. Assembly Democrats up for reelection will run away from him.

He could be down 8-10 points in the polls by July 1.

The best thing for New Jersey's future is for Obama to bail him out!

If not that then he has to begin campaigning as soon as possible or at least get some surrogates to start going after Christie.

I Smell A Hidden Agenda Here.... (0.00 / 0)
...your animosity toward Corzine is palpable.

If Corzine loses, it will be very close....and it will be because he failed to adopt populist aggressively progressive policies.

Christie is a political whore.   If the race comes down to Corzine going the route of conventional politics and Christie doing the same it will be a mudbath....but I think Corzine would edge the greater evil out.

If Corzine takes my advice and follows the call of his higher angels; he can save himself 25 million bucks and still win handily.....and we all would reap the rewards of a transformed NJ over the next four years.

I heard.... (0.00 / 0)
a smart politician speak this weekend and he said something very interesting: the last time good anonymous political writing took place was when Jay, Hamilton, and Madison were writing the Federalist Papers.

even that example conceals (0.00 / 0)
the fact that if their identities were known, some of their arguments would have been discounted based on those identities.  We probably would have gotten a Constitutional Convention anyway, but it would have been a little tougher.
