Anonymous hold placed on Lisa Jackson

by: Jason Springer

Wed Jan 21, 2009 at 06:08:18 PM EST

From CQ Politics:
The confirmation of Obama?s choices for EPA administrator, former New Jersey environmental chief Lisa P. Jackson, and White House Council on Environmental Quality chairwoman, Nancy H. Sutley, were delayed because a senator has put a hold on their nominations, a Democratic aide said. The identity of the senator holding up the nominations and the reason for blocking them could not be immediately determined.
This is a surprising development as Jackson was not expected to be a flash point from everything I've seen.  We'll have to see what comes out about who put on the hold and why they felt it was necessary. Anyone have a guess?

Republicans flexing obstructionist muscle (0.00 / 0)
The right doesn't like Jackson's commitment to regulating carbon.  They're going to make a mockery of actual science.

Or it might have something to do with actually trying to do something about the Ramapoughs and Superfund sites.

Environmental Destruction Agencey (0.00 / 0)
That's the Bush "legacy".  These bastards who have been running the agency have sold out human life to corporate profits.   It's that simple.  The diary links to Council on Foreign Relations page that has a bad link to the Jackson confirmation hearing.  The hearing is worth watching.   Here's a link to it that will work.
http://epw.senate.gov/public/i...  Jackson needs to be approved asap.

Having said that, I wish Obama had nominated Robert Kennedy Jr for this job, he would have been far more aggressive than Jackson will be and he would have probably gotten 40 no votes from Senatorial whores......but that would have been an indication of real root to branch change.    Jackson is considered a radical by some Republicans because she believes in the laws of physics.   I believe Lisa Jackson will do a halfway decent job......and that will be a 100% better than what we had.   The question is will it be good enough to save our future descendants from the downstream environmental horrors we've released in the USA and throughout the globe?

Republicans trying to slow things down (0.00 / 0)
That's how things look to me so far.

Country first?  Thought I heard that someplace but must have been dreaming.

Who is no republican, had some pretty damning things to say about her over at NJ Voices. Maybe some of that caught up with her?
