How they voted on Economic Recovery and Digital TV delay

by: Jason Springer

Thu Jan 29, 2009 at 11:00:00 AM EST

Yesterday, the House considered Economic Recovery legislation and a delay in the transition to digital televistion:

American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan
YESNO
Adler
Andrews
Holt
Pallone
Pascrell
Payne
Rothman
Sires
Frelinghuysen
Garrett
Lance
LoBiondo
Smith
To postpone the DTV transition date
YESNO
Andrews
Holt
LoBiondo
Pallone
Pascrell
Rothman
Sires

Adler
Frelinghuysen
Garrett
Lance
Smith

Democrats are in blue, and Republicans are in red.

Regarding the Economic recovery vote, it passed with absolutely no Republican support in this new era of bi-partisanship by a 244-188 margin. Americans United for change ripped the NJ GOP opposition to the plan, leaving out Scott Garrett who also voted no:
Thanks to the extraordinary leadership of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi, the U.S. House has acted quickly and decisively to move forward this major economic recovery plan that will put millions of middle-class Americans back to work and back spending money again. This was perhaps the most historic vote in Congress since the vote to authorize the war in Iraq. Yet, amid a crippling economic recession that has cost millions of Americans their jobs and threatens millions more if nothing is done, Representatives Frelinghuysen, Lance, LoBiondo and Smith all chose to put partisan politics and the failed policies of the past over the struggling families they represent. President Obama reached out to Democrats and Republicans alike and set aside partisanship and ideology to craft a bold measure to get America back to work. It's sad that these Representatives are still clinging to petty partisanship and the same failed, well-worn ideology of Bush 'trickle-down' economics that got us into this mess to begin with.
The delay of the digital transition vote failed by a vote of 258-168. It wasn't a party line vote and in NJ, Congressman Adler voted against, while Congressman Lobiondo voted for. Congressman Payne did not vote on the bill. I'm not sure what the delay would have done, it's not like there is going to be more money available in four months.

This Vote Alone Should Cost Lance His Job (0.00 / 0)
So much for Lance being a decent "moderate"

This bill was no brainer on the order of SCHIP.

Lance needs to be politically bludgeoned with this stinker vote 1n 2010.   No woman should vote for this bum and no man who cares about equal rights for women.

Remember.

I must say... (0.00 / 0)
This is the kind of vote that makes me have to bite down hard on my tongue about Len Lance.

As for Ernie, he's just paying back all of his female supporters in the Broccoli. I am sure they are delighted they voted for him.

The nom de plume has a long and distinguished history.

Weird Glitch in SoapBlox... (0.00 / 0)
Note the dates on my comment and the reply.

This comment was submitted to the diary on the Lilly Ledbetter vote.  (Which by the way Obama has just signed into law as Ms Ledbetter stood by with pride!   http://content.usatoday.com/co...  )

How it got transposed to today is beyond me.   Someone should check it out lest there be residual infection/side effects from the recent evil hacking that attacked SoapBlox.

and also (0.00 / 0)
Although I had never clicked on the diary before, only a few of the comments registered as "new."  So Soapblox knew that this was an old comment that I had seen on another diary.  Very odd.

actually I think it is the diary number that is bad (4.00 / 1)
Compare to previous ones.  Did Jason somehow edit an old diary?

My letter to the Star-Ledger (4.00 / 1)
Dear Editors:

I see that Leonard Lance, the self-proclaimed champion of women, has voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Lily Ledbetter was denied the chance to sue for pay discrimination because she didn't discover it was happening for years. This law would extend the time a person can claim discrimination.

I wonder how Linda Stender would have voted?

So far, Lance gets a failing grade as a "moderate" Republican.

The email for the Star-Ledger: eletters@starledger.com

Let's see if we can flood them with letters every time Lance votes as we all knew he would: Lockstep with the Rs.

Great job and great idea n/t (0.00 / 0)

Lance DID vote Yea on S 181 (0.00 / 0)
So did Chris Smith! (see clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll037.xml )
So give the devils their due.

As some sort of recompense, when I sent Lance a message of "support" for his vote on his Congressional Web page, I got back an automatic reply titled:
"The Office of Representative Mike Ferguson"

I hope Al Franken will have better luck with IT in the Senate.

I guess they already wrote Garrett off (0.00 / 0)
a long time ago as his no vote is basically a given on anything that isn't draconian or crazy.

The only answer for him is to get rid of him.

Scott Garrett - on the wrong side of, well, everything.

LoBiondo (0.00 / 0)
In his press release looks for spending to denounce, and decides to pick on scientific research.   I'd have hoped that instinct was discredited by McCain's failures in the debates, but I guess not.
