Christie makes it official

by: Thurman Hart

Thu Jan 08, 2009 at 12:53:34 PM EST

This one has all the suspense of the alphabet song: Chris Christie is officially a candidate for Governor of New Jersey in 2009.  Of course, he's been running now for six years - and he's managed to do some good for the state in the process.  Unfortunately, his campaign is already degenerating into a pack of half-truths, distortions, and outright lies:
Christie also claims that "We've lost 14,000 jobs since 2000..." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, we started 2000 with 3,961,500 jobs (total nonfarm jobs). As of October of this year, we had 4,054,400 jobs. While it's true that we've lost jobs over the course of the last twelve months, it's also true that we're in a fairly steep recession. A recession that was caused by fiscal policy and economic deregulation that came from Washington faux-"conservatives".

If we look at "total private employment"; then we began January of 2000 with 3,307,400 jobs. We currently flutter around 3,422,100 jobs. No, it isn't stellar job growth, but it's pretty much the opposite of losing jobs. These also are not "government jobs."

Expect Christie to tie everything to "corruption-busting."  It's the only note he can sing.  Unfortunately for him, there's the little problem with no-bid contracts under his tenure and the total lack of interest in corruption in Republican strongholds like Somerset or Burlington Counties.

But I guess one can't expect a Bush toady to fish out Republican corruption, now can we?

Christie Can't Win This Unless.... (0.00 / 0)
....Corzine runs an incompetent campaign.  With all of his "warts" Corzine stands heads and shoulders over Bush toady, Christopher Christie.  Christie is extremely vulnerable in precisely the areas of corruption and ethics and pay to play.   The case has been made in overwhelming ways on this site over the last year and more.

I hope that someone associated with John Corzine has been reading this site and that the Corzine campaign is prepared to fight.   There is no shortage of ammunition.   And, evidently, the only others running in the Republican field make Christie look "liberal" in comparison!   The only way Corzine loses, legitimately, is if there is a truly clean, progressive John Lindsay stayle Republican in this state willing to run.....and (here's the hard part) able to win their primary.
