I’m reading the online newspaper articles and getting a mixed message. It seems that most papers (and the sources they rely upon) expect a budget deal this week. All agree that Corzine’s plan, including raising the sales tax, is gaining support. The Senate will approve the sales tax hike, but only if the Assembly does too. It appears the Bergen and Hudson County Dems are joining the Essex County Dems in supporting Corzine’s plan. The NY Times seems to predict a Corzine victory, the Star-Ledger expects a “last-minute scramble,” and the South Jersey papers have different concerns.

Readers of bluejersey already know Kean’s attacks on Bob Menenedez are false, but now the New York Times weighs in. Their verdict: “The Kean accusations find no support in those records or from independent authorities of that era.”
An article in my local Salem County paper caught my attention. Today’s Sunbeam has a story by Christopher Weir called Possible P.G. voting problems probed. Evidently absentee ballots can be just as suspicious as electronic ballots!
According to Today’s Sunbeam, the Salem County newspaper, Representative Frank LoBiondo, Republican of NJ02, visited a local high school and said some remarkable things about attacking Iraq and Iran.
