About Derel M. Stroud

Derel M. Stroud: Determined, Motivated, & Driven Derel Maurese Stroud was born on October 15, 1985, in Toms River, New Jersey, where he spent most of his childhood years. In 1990, his parents divorced, leaving Derel, and his newly born sibling to live with his single mother, Donna. Derel and his brother, Kenneth, attended grade school in Ocean County, before relocating to Monmouth County, where Derel would eventually graduate from Academy Charter High School, in Lake Como in 2004 . In 2006, Derel went on to attend Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ; where he attained an Associate’s Degree in 2009. During his final semester at Brookdale, he held a full- time job at Walmart, secured an internship with the office of constituent services of then New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine, and with a local attorney. Upon graduating from Brookdale, Derel was chosen to deliver one of two commencement speeches. Following his speech, a well-known newspaper throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties known as The Asbury Park Press, contacted Derel and asked if they could do a profile on him. Soon after he went on to graduate from Seton Hall University in 2012, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, as well as two minors, one in Public Relations, the other in Social Work. During his time at Seton Hall, Stroud served as the President of the Student Government Association. He also is a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi, Fraternity Inc, where he served as chair of special events. Most recently, Derel was appointed co-advisor for the Gamma Pi chapter at Seton Hall. Derel had taken the initiative to conduct a fundraiser for a child in need of a heart transplant. No questions asked, he took on the burden to help a family in need. When asked about his decision to take on such an initiative for a complete stranger, not even in the same state, Stroud replied; “It is what it’s all about, helping others, and not being constantly concerned with self-interests.” The person that inspires Stroud the most is President Barack Obama “He is here to serve the interests of the people, however, he cannot do it alone,” he said. In addition he added that he learned his strong work ethic, and morals from his mother, whom he has always looked up to, and followed in her footsteps. With over a decade’s worth of experience in New Jersey political campaigns, Derel is a rising star in New Jersey Democratic campaigns. Most recently he played a key role as Field Director for Bonnie Watson Coleman’s successful primary campaign for U.S. House seat being vacated by Rush Holt, helping to produce a far higher turnout than experts anticipated. Among his other high-profile positions include Regional Field Director for Barbara Buono for Governor, County Organizer for Victory 2012 Obama/Menendez and General Consultant for Mayor Adrian Mapp, and the Plainfield democrats. Stroud currently works as a Senior Admissions Representative at American Institute, an Innovative Career Training institution. He also owns and operates his own company, Dude I’m Right Here, LLC, specializing in political and small business consulting. Today, Derel encourages young people, especially African-American men, to not only become involved in their communities but also in the political process. Derel’s life teaches others to “reach for the stars” and follow their dreams, no matter how great!
