FYI – GOTV Rally Today – Phil Murphy, Cory Booker, Bob Menendez, Frank Pallone, BWC, Coughlin

Barring any hitherto inconceivable shake-up, Frank Pallone and Bonnie Watson Coleman will have safe re-elects in two days. That frees them both up for today’s GOTV rally where challengers in GOP-held or GOP-open districts like Tom Malinowski, Mikie Sherrill, and Andy Kim are more likely to be mid-canvass this sunny Sunday in their own districts. Cory Booker is everywhere, everywhere, everywhere not only for challengers he hopes to bring onto the NJ congressional delegation he and Menendez lead, but early primary states like New Hampshire and Iowa in early (not that early) 2020 tours. Bob Menendez benefits by being in front of Democrats and supporting independents; Bob Hugin’s spending millions of dollars of his own Big Pharma dollars on TV ads smearing Menendez – not by discussing policy differences or anything Hugin actually stands for – but on the made-up bullshit of Menendez and “underage prostitutes”. Which, assuming Hugin can read, he knows are far-right propaganda. Trentonia will be represented by New Jersey’s Dem Governor and by Speaker Craig Coughlin, who will be on home ground in Middlesex County.

BWC and Pallone have safe re-elects because instead of creating a congressional district map with 11 competitive districts and 1 safe D district, past congressional redistricting commissions created congressional districts that were more concerned about protecting incumbents than having a functional democratic process.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Democrats hold 11 out of 12 congressional seats after the 2020 elections. The next congressional redistricting commission could be the most cutthroat in history.

Unfortunately, CD4 will be made even redder so that the blue voters in that part of the state can be further divided amongst Democratic incumbents like BWC, Pallone, and hopefully, Kim.
