UPDATE: Before Wednesday’s NJTV debate, there are two big candidate forums tonight with CD11 Mikie Sherrill & Jay Webber. How to attend.
NJTV has announced the dates & times for 4 televised debates beginning tomorrow night. First up? CD11’s Mikie Sherrill and Jay Webber with successive Wednesday debates for hot zones CD7 & CD3 and the Senate contest between Bobs Menendez and Hugin. For most voters, these will be the most accessible debates, all on NJTV with many livestream options.
Here’s the NJTV debate schedule – all debates on Wednesday nights at 8pm:
10/10 CD-11 Mikie Sherrill v. Jay Webber – – You can watch on YouTube here.
10/17 CD-7 Tom Malinowski v. Leonard Lance
10/24 U.S. Senate Bob Menendez v. Bob Hugin
10/31 CD-3 Andy Kim v. Tom MacArthur
Question for the candidates? NJ Spotlight is NJTV’s debates partner; they’re looking for input on questions to ask. Submit a question.
Where to watch: NJTVDebateNight.org, YouTube, Facebook, Senate debate streamed at PBS NewsHour website (and its Facebook).
NJ Spotlight & NJTV News will also provide real-time fact-checks and other commentary.
Two districts in play NJTV is not hosting debates for are CD4 – (Rep. Chris Smith v. Josh Welle) & CD2 (open- Jeff Van Drew v. Seth Grossman):
CD4: Two generations of human beings have been born and raised in CD4 since Chris Smith was elected to Congress, and they’re all probably more familiar with the landscape than he is; this “Pro-Life Caucus” member is in office 37 years. Smith hasn’t hasn’t faced his constituents in a town hall in decades, lives full-time in Virginia, and evades debate like the plague. Josh Welle began asking for 3 debates early (watch), but no. Constituent Mary Caffrey’s got Smith’s number: Chris Smith Knows Debates Matter. That’s Why He Won’t Do One.
CD2: By contrast, CD2’s an open seat, where progressive African-American woman candidate Tanzie Youngblood, who began her campaign before Rep. Frank LoBiondo dropped out, was muscled out of the way by Norcross Dem machine product Jeff Van Drew, miraculously endorsed by all CD2’s 8 Democratic chairs on the very day he announced.(after LoBo exited). As worthless a Democrat Van Drew is, his opponent is worse. Seth Grossman is so racistthe national Republicans don’t even want him. Van Drew and Grossman are also debating Wednesday night, and frankly that could be interesting. It’s not for NJTV, but you can watch the livestream here.
Moderators for the NJTV debates: NJTV News Chief Political Correspondent Michael Aron will moderate the Sherrill/Webber debate tomorrow night, and will be joined by PBS NewsHour Correspondent Lisa Desjardins to co-moderate the U.S. Senate debate October 24th. NJTV News Correspondent Briana Vannozzi will moderate Lance/Malinowski on October 17th; NJTV News Senior Correspondent David Cruz will moderate Kim/MacArthur October 31st.
