Troy Singleton as FDR’s Harold Ickes – in ‘Annie’

Just wanted to point to a classy thing Troy Singleton did over the weekend, and to show you how he’s spending part of his summer that I had zero idea he was doing: this New Jersey Dem is co-starring as a famous national Dem in a local production of Annie. But with a snag. Here’s what he wrote on Facebook yesterday:

I unfortunately suffered a back injury last night which is causing me spasms. I will not be able to perform this afternoon. I still would greatly appreciate it if you could come out and support this great company. As an incentive, if you come to the show today and say, “I’m a guest of Senator Troy Singleton” I will purchase your ticket. Come out and support a great show! Mark Morgan please give me an accounting after the show and I will have it for you on Monday.

Senator, Blue Jersey wishes you speedy recovery, especially in time for your next two shows –

About the show: Some local celebs in juicy roles. A couple of well-known local Dems play a couple of famous Dems from history: Troy Singleton plays FDR’s Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes. Moorestown Council member Lisa Di Dia Petriello plays FDR’s Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins (sharing the role with Burlington County Chamber of Commerce Pres & CEO Kristi Howell). Channel 6abc’s Rick Williams plays Daddy Warbucks in half of this double-cast production. This is the 150th production of the non-profit Moorestown Theater Company; Annie was also the company’s first-ever production in 2003.
If you want to go: There are two casts. Troy Singleton is in the “Gold cast,” with remaining shows Thursday (7/26) & Saturday (7/28). Ticketing info here (and if you’re going to see Troy, call the theater to find out if he’s recovered enough for the show).
