One of the Democratic Party’s big guns, and a potential 2020 presidential candidate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is coming in for a fundraiser benefitting two Democrats both with background in the federal government; former national security official Andy Kim (CD3) and Obama Assistant Secretary of State Tom Malinowski (CD7). The event is Friday, July 27 at the home of former Edison mayor Jun Choi and Lisa Lee in Short Hills. Five hundred dollars gets you in the door, top line hosts are bringing in $2,700 each.
Andy Kim, who ran unopposed in the primary, has been polling well; 1 point back behind Rep. Tom MacArthur in April (a year after T-Mac stuck his neck out reviving the ACA repeal bill with the MacArthur Amendment, 4 points back (8% undecided) in an internal poll with sampling just before the June 5 primary, tied with 42% each in another internal poll a few days ago. Cooks rates NJ3 Lean R, Trump won the district by 6 points.
Tom Malinowski was on Morning Joe this morning, touting the Democratic Party as the political face of patriotism and respect for law enforcement now, but also taking some hard questions on the Obama administration not acting to stop Russian meddling in the 2016 during the time Malinowski was in the U.S. State Dept. Cook rates NJ07 as a Toss Up; Rep. Leonard Lance serves one of just 23 Republican House districts that went for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
