Axel Owen is Chair John Currie’s pick for NJDSC Political Director

Alexander “Axel” Owen is New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chair John Currie’s pick to be the state party’s next Political Director. His decade of experience includes voter outreach work, U.S. Senate campaigns, the campaign for Tim Eustace and Joe Lagana in Bergen. But the standout win was his most recent; turning LD-11 100% blue, with the first re-election of Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling in the Assembly, and Vin Gopal’s victory over Republican senator Jennifer Beck, who had a 12-year run in the New Jersey Legislature; two years in the Assembly, and then in the Senate 4 years in LD-12 and 6 in the redistricted LD-11. Axel joins new party ED Liz Gilbert. Congratulations to both Liz and Axel.

Currie’s statement:

“With the addition of Axel, we are ramping up our campaign operations at a critical juncture. This year is New Jersey’s chance to hold Republicans accountable for Donald Trump’s lies, deceit, and the divisive agenda they’ve helped him promote. To do that, we need to educate, organize, and mobilize voters. Axel has proven quite good at doing that.”

“I am sure that the Democratic activists, labor leaders, campaign managers and candidates that have not yet worked with Axel will soon appreciate his savvy and responsiveness as much as those who already have. I am eager to set him loose, and see what he can do in the varied political turf of the state’s 21 counties.”

NJDSC’s previous Political Director, Jennifer Holdsworth, went on to become Hillary Clinton’s New Jersey NJ state director for her failed 2016 presidential campaign. Clinton won New Jersey 55% to Donald Trump’s 41%.

Owen received a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Government from Ripon College in May 2009.
