Rutgers Spends $115M For Basketball Practice Facility

This just amazes me.

Rutgers [men’s basketball team] could notch its first winning season in 12 years. It is also in the process of building a state-of-the-art, $115 million, 125,000-foot practice facility.

That $115 million is for the practice facility for a team of “scholar athletes” that hasn’t had a winning season since 2005. Not the actual court, or the stands, or the concessions … this is $115M to build a place to practice so that later they can play in the public gym.

In addition to the hundred mill for the practice facility, Rutgers is paying out $1.9 million in severance to basketball coach Eddie Jordan who was fired for losing too much, and we don’t know the amount of the settlement for former basketball coach Mike Rice Jr. for berating his players with homophobic slurs and generally being an ass.

I wonder how much the chemistry department got for their practice facility.
