Calling it for Murphy

Seconds after polls closed in New Jersey at 8pm, both MSNBC (Chris Hayes) and Star-Ledger (via Twitter, and in their site) called it for Murphy. Boom. And in Virginia, Ralph Northam, the Democratic LG wins his bid for Governor. EXHALE.

This is probably in your Inbox, from Phil Murphy (they’re not all addressed to “Rosi” of course …)

    Rosi,

    I want to thank you.

I’m truly honored and humbled to be the next Governor of New Jersey, especially knowing you are the reason why I am here.

When we started this journey together 18 months ago, I never could have imagined how many of you would volunteer your time, chip in whatever you could afford, and sacrifice so much for this shared victory. And I truly cannot thank you enough for your support, and your conviction.

Without you, Rosi, this would not have been possible. You helped send a message that we are united — and that together we’ll end the failed status quo in Trenton by creating a stronger, fairer economy that works for every New Jersey family.

So, now it is time to get to work. Together, we can do this. I believe in you and all the people living in our great state — and I promise I’ll always have your back.
    Thank you,
    Phil

In LD3, With 6% of the vote in, it’s Steve Sweeney at 64% with Grenier at 36%.

In Virginia, a 25-year incumbent Bob Marshall – sponsor of Virginia’s transphobic “bathroom bill” who refused to debate his opponent OR call her by the proper gender has been DEFEATED by Danica Roem, a former journalist turned candidate for Virginia’s House of Delegates – who will become the country’s first out transgender state representative.

UPDATE: And it’s official. We pick up the LD11 senate seat. Congratulations Vin Gopal. Well done.

Absent any surprises in the last 11% of returns, with 89% in it looks like Vin Gopal, who revitalized Monmouth County Dems as its Chair, has now defeated Republican Jen Beck to become LD11’s next state senator. Vin currently at 54%, Beck at 46%.
