Phil Murphy, Is this how you want things to be?

What does Ambassador Murphy think of some people in his party turning others in his party away?

Blue Jersey saw something interesting on the interwebs last night. Seems the power-brokers at the Middlesex County Democratic Organization aren’t done yet with retribution against progressive primary candidates and supporters, and their pissy mood is spilling over onto regular Party volunteers as well. Last night, they abruptly cancelled a phone bank at their Metuchen HQ rather than have volunteers from Central Jersey Progressive Democrats (CJPD) make GOTV calls for Phil Murphy & Sheila Oliver and the Democratic ticket. I mean, sure as hell looks that way.

What we know: Local progressives organized two nights of phone banking. When they began arriving, wearing CJPD buttons and ready to work alongside the other volunteers, the person running the office certainly acted like he was expecting people, and went to fetch call lists. But after a long 5 minutes, he came back in and said there was no phone bank. A …“misunderstanding.” By now, the office was filling up; folks already there (some with buttons) and folks who kept arriving, and each expecting to make calls for Murphy. Because, phone bank. A teenager. A woman who fought 45 minutes of Middlesex traffic to get there on time to phone bank. People who got emails from the campaign confirming the phone bank was happening. And everybody walking in the door – Central Jersey Progressive Dems buttons or not – was there to get Phil Murphy elected.

About a dozen vols in all. But, after a few minutes of confusion, the same MCDO staffer announced they were going to close the entire office, and he put a sign on the door that the phone bank (that they said was never planned) was cancelled. And locked the door. Now, even if you buy that some version MCDO’s story – that it was a long day with hosting Joe Biden in Edison, “crossed-wires” in planning etc – no political operation worth its salt turns away a dozen vols ready to rock the phones this close to an election. Especially when their candidate’s lead has been steadily shrinking. EVER.

Seems MCDO would rather cancel a phone bank, and turn away volunteers willing to give their time to help elect a Democrat as NJ’s next governor, than work with progressives even when those progressives offer their help.

Maybe Phil Murphy needs to have a talk with somebody over there. Sure seems like a weird way to build unity.

If we hear from the MCDO, we’ll post their response.

Send them all down to Middletown! The Middletown Dems are looking for energetic volunteers to help GOTV.

Monmouth County and Middletown have been the home of Republicans for far too long. We have great local candidates running for Township Committee, Tricia Maguire & Will Hutton and in LD 13 with Sean Brynes for Senate and Tom Giaimo & Mariel DiDato for Assembly.

If Democrats can win or come close to winning in Middletown than Murphy and other Dems on the ticket will win in Monmouth County.

If, God forbid, Guadagno somehow wins it would be because of just this kind of divide in the Democratic Party.

The pay to play machine bossist establishment would actually rather lose than see themselves swept out of power by Grass Roots progressives who would actually implement genuinely transformational policies. The establishment wants to maintain the status quo of just being better than the Republicans……which disgusts and discourages the base in many different ways. This incident in a microcmic example of what gave Trump the WH and of how Republicans can win even though they represent a minority of the people.

Similar Middlesex County antics cost Jim Florio the governor’s race in ’81 and probably reelection in ’93.

I can attest to the division-causing deception and false information that leads to Democrats to not support candidates at all, after the attempt and offer is made on our end. For instance, I offered to assist Mariel Didato and Tom Giaimo’s campaigns, but I was mislead by their statements about what they will do and never did, so I refuse to assist their campaigns or support them. The support they want is disappearing at their own lack of actions and if they lose, I really don’t care because they do it to themselves.

I myself am not up to speed on Mariel Didato or Tom Giaimo campaigns.
