Remember that young kid who was a community organizer on the streets of Chicago a few decades ago? He’s now happily retired and enjoying life. But he’s not the only former Chicago organizer who tried his hand in electoral politics.
Marlton’s Andy Kim also served as a community organizer in the Windy City when he was an undergraduate at the University of Chicago. Kim went on to pursue an advanced degree at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and then served in the diplomatic corps in Afghanistan as an advisor to General David Petraeus. He also worked for that earlier community organizer in the White House.
Kim is exploring a congressional run in New Jersey’s Third District – the seat currently held by Trump apologist Tom MacArthur. In his appearances around the district, Kim has been introducing himself to various groups concerned about the future of the people of the District and America as a whole.
In his Friday night remarks to Action Together Burlington County, Kim talked about growing up in Marlton and attending its public schools before eventually earning a PhD at Oxford. His background makes him the strongest candidate in the area of national security, and he shared that as well as his approach to the other important issues of the day with the group. Here are some excerpts.
