The last time we checked in with Michael Cooke, he was exploring a run for Congress in 2016 from New Jersey’s Third District. However, the Ocean County Democratic Committee selected a superb candidate in Jim Keady while the Burlington County committee selected a sub-par standard-bearer in Fred LaVergne. LaVergne won the primary and went on to be trounced by incumbent Tom MacArthur.
Now, Cooke has his eyes set on Trenton, running against incumbent Republicans for a seat in the General Assembly. I met with Cooke in his Toms River law office where we talked about taxes, energy, the environment, school funding, the upcoming CD-3 race, marijuana legalization, and why Ocean County is the key to toppling MacArthur.
