500,000 New Jerseyans to lose healthcare. Trumpcare vote Thursday. What you can do about it:

What: Candlelight vigils outside the Congressional offices of Reps Frelinghuysen, Lance, LoBiondo, MacArthur & Smith
When: Tomorrow (Weds) March 22: 4:30-6:30pm
Where: Morristown, Westfield, Flemington, Mays Landing, Marlton, Toms River, Freehold, Hamilton (maps/addresses) via NJ Citizen Action
Why now? Trumpcare vote is scheduled for Thursday and this is it.

Here are the numbers, via New Jersey Policy Perspective of how many New Jerseyans would lose healthcare coverage under the Trump-era ‘American Health Care Act.’ Breakdown by congressional district, with some of our NJ Republicans helping to drive the ‘repeal and replace’ fever that the GOP’s been itching to transact for 7 years. NJPP:

The best way to understand the American Health Care Act is to see it as a vehicle to shift income from working and poor families to the wealthy and as part of the plan to shift federal spending from a broad range of domestic services to the military budget. In fact, the proposed cuts in the Medicaid expansion and the marketplace alone would reduce or eliminate health coverage for millions, including half a million New Jerseyans in just the next three years. Meanwhile, 250 New Jersey millionaires would see their federal taxes reduced by an average of $57,000 a year – a $14 million break, all told – while thousands of low- and middle-income New Jerseyans would face 30 percent tax hikes as support for their health care premiums would shrink or disappear.

That’s it. Congressional Republicans will prioritize the desires of their wealthiest constituents and campaign check-writers at the expense of seniors, people with disabilities, working parents and children. They started this off by hiding their bill in the Capitol basement – keeping it from press, voters – even hiding it from other members of Congress, leading Dems like Frank Pallone – ranking Dem on the committee that would have to vote on the bill before the full House got it – on a wild goose chase down hallways, offices, and locked doors.

Now we know that Speaker Paul Ryan has made changes to the bill, responding to strife inside his own caucus, particularly after the CBO score was an optics disaster for the Republicans. Now Ryan intends to vote on the bill  – Thursday – before the CBO has another chance to score it, before all members of Congress know what’s in it.

This is where you come in. With a vote scheduled Thurs, it’s essential to show up Wednesday night to join ongoing protests outside district offices. We have to make these House Republicans feel the heat and understand that healthcare is priority – that if they vote for this, it could cost them re-election. Because we will see to it. Again:

I LOVE the gristle behind this email to allies from my favorite Resister Princess, Hetty Rosenstein. Do it now:

    “Dear CoWorkers, Colleagues, and Resisters,

    Time is running out.

Congressman Tom MacArthur just announced that he is voting FOR TrumpRyanNoCare. I am not exaggerating when I say that this Bill will be a Healthcare Apocalypse in New Jersey and throughout the Country. Over 500,000 New Jersey residence will lose their healthcare under this Bill, and doctors, hospitals and healthcare facilities will go under. Those who continue to be fortunate enough to have coverage will pay the cost of Charity Care and will lose protections and community facilities. And all of this will happen while the wealthiest people in this State and throughout this country get MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars in tax cuts.

19 Republicans have said that they will vote no. We need 2 more – assuming that no Blue Dog Democrats vote with the Republicans.

I cannot believe that I have to beg you to make a phone call – but today I am BEGGING you.
