More than ten thousand New Jerseyans, mostly women, took to the streets of Trenton today to declare that the inauguration of Donald Trump would not impact the gains we’ve made in women’s (and immigrant, human, environmental, youth and all other) rights over the past few decades. They were part of a national effort that brought hundreds of thousands to the big rally in DC, and millions of marchers throughout the country.
Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman was one of the first speakers (of a few dozen who spoke for 90 minutes before the march) and told the crowd that there were about 3,000 people inside and another 3,000 outside. However, her count was quite low because people continued to arrive after her count was made, and even more came after she spoke.
When the announcements started. there was no one on the sidewalks below the War Memorial and by the end of the speeches not only the sidewalk but the street and the sidewalk across the street were covered with people. There had to be at least ten thousand people who drove to our state’s capital to make a real point. Resist Trumpism, and continue to fight for progressive goals.
