Photo of the Day: Props at the Statehouse

There’s a lot going on at the Statehouse today. Electors voting for POTUS at 3pm in the Statehouse Annex, and the last scheduled voting day of 2016, two odious bills getting fast-tracked. These folks are down there now, handing out backscratchers to underscore the bad bills that got greased through committee last Thursday and come up for vote today. If they go through, the Legislature would twist the meaning out of the ethics requirements governing Chris Christie to allow him to profit off a book deal while still in office, while in turn, legislators’ staff would get raises (bonus outrage: this coming even as a $15 NJ minimum wage gets killed till 2018 on the Democrats’ watch). And in a move widely attributed to Christie’s thirst for revenge for the bad press he got for Bridgegate (a plot that was all about revenge), to punish journalists for doing their job. another bill ending the requirement to post notices in newspapers that that would have a chilling effect on newspapers’ ability to fund close coverage of New Jersey politics. What’s in it for Christie? That’s obvious. But what’s in it for legislators? Well, you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours …

If you haven’t already, there’s still time to call your legislators. Call all three offices and leave a message stating your name, what town you live in, and then tell them to vote NO on the Book Deal/Kill the Press bills. Find your legislators here.
