Last night’s VEEPster debates were excruciating to watch; yammering boys talking over each other, and moderator Elaine Quijano doing her best to traffic cop some order (failing, but maybe not her fault). Pick-a-little-talk-a-little-cheep-cheep-cheep. On the surface – and there was plenty of surface – it just looked like Tim Kaine was hyper caffeinated, rude and undisciplined, constantly interrupting the lower-voiced, calmer and (sorry) more presidential-sounding Mike Pence. So, Pence, auditioning for 2020 and pretty much ditching some of his role to do Trump some good, looked like the winner in CNN’s overnight poll. But then there was the meta stuff going on, meta all over the place. And one interpretation floating around out there is that Kaine fell on his sword, looked bad but delivered Clinton what she needed: ammunition for a rapid-response video showing all the things Donald Trump actually said that Mike Pence denied he said last night. And lo, Team Clinton used the Google machine and produced it late this morning. In English. And in Spanish (2nd video).
You knew this was coming. And here it is.
