This one cracks me up, and continues demonstrating that Steve Lonegan may be a successful businessman but his judgement and basic arithmetic skills are limited.
Lonegan’s campaign issued a statement encouraging Republicans in Washington “not to capitulate to the president’s unreasonable demands” until after Wednesday’s special U.S. Senate election in New Jersey. According to Lonegan, he will win that race against Democratic Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker. That in turn will cause Obama to give in to the Republican demands to stop the health care law.
“When I win, Obama will fold,” Lonegan said in the statement.
Someone should tell Mr. Lonegan that there are currently 54 Senators caucusing with the Democrats, and 45 caucusing with the Republicans. If Mr. Lonegan wins, that will change to 54 with the Dems, and 46 with the GOP.
Doesn’t really tip the scales, Mr. L.
UPDATE: It’s worse than I thought. I’d forgotten Governor Chris Christie appointed Jeff Chiesa to the US Senate, so Mr. Lonegan won’t change the ratio at all.
In fact, the only way it changes is if Booker wins and the Democrats pick up a seat. Heh.
