Assemblyman Greenwald Passes on Battle for Speaker

There’s been some speculation in the press lately that South Jersey Assemblyman and Majority Leader Lou Greenwald is angling to become the Assembly Speaker next year, replacing Sheila Oliver. This statement, just issued by his office, appears to put that rumor to rest.

(TRENTON)–Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) issued the following statement Wednesday:

“My top priority as Majority Leader and as a leader in the New Jersey Democratic party is maintaining and strengthening our Democratic majority in the Assembly.  To that end, I have worked tirelessly to return 48 Democratic members to the Assembly and to expand our majority in key battleground districts.  If Democrats retain control of the Assembly, as I strongly believe we will, my plan is to ask for the caucus’s support for another term as Assembly Majority Leader.”

And he wasn’t.  Will go to someone from North Jersey.  Probably Prieto.

One from the North and one from the South.

The good thing is that it appears that with 6 weeks to go the Democrats are fighting, and so far, winning the battle to keep the Legislature.
