Why Can’t We Bet on Sports in New Jersey?

Promoted by Interested Observer: Where do you stand on Sports betting and NJ?

James Surowiecki of the New Yorker is talking generally about why sports betting is controversial, but there’s a good bit in here about New Jersey’s efforts to legalize sports betting while major sports leagues are trying to put the kibosh on it.

The sports book rooms in Vegas are a huge draw – picture the best sports bar you’ve ever been to, and triple it. A great atmosphere, if you like that kind of thing.

And guess what? People in New Jersey (and NY, and PA, and DE …) do like that kind of thing. We bet on sports all the time – March Madness anyone? – and there’s no good reason why “America’s Playground” shouldn’t be offering that option.
