      I don’t believe that Sweeney is opposed to putting marriage equality on the ballot on principle.  He just doesn’t want it on the ballot when he will be running for re-election in a district that is less LGBT-friendly than most.

      He will continue to make this argument and pretend to fight for a veto override throughout this year, but if that fails, he will undoubtedly relent early next year when the outcome of the election will not have an impact on his political fortunes.

      My feeling on this issue is that the LGBT community should be the one to decide the best path for fighting for their civil rights.  Reed Gusciora clearly has more credibility on this issue than Steve Sweeney.  Steven Goldstein and the leadership/membership of Garden State Equality should probably be the ones to make the final decision.
