Happy Thanksgiving! Open Thread for November 22, 2012

We at Blue Jersey would like to wish everyone in the Garden State and across the U.S. a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving! We’re taking the day off from proper blogging in order to stir the gravy, watch football and spend time with friends and family.

How are you celebrating this year? Are you cooking, or just eating? Are you rooting for the Lions or the Cowboys (or the Jets)? Do you prefer the cranberry sauce that’s like jelly in the shape of a can, or the lumpy kind?

And most importantly – for what are you thankful?

Enjoy, and again – from all of us here at Blue Jersey, Happy Thanksgiving!

No cooking for me, just eating, rooting for the Jets, and enjoying whatever form of cranberry I’m treated to.

Thankful to have so much love in my life from family and friends. 🙂

I’m thankful for a lot of things, the least of which is for being able to afford my bar tab last night and finding a way to get home safely.

I’m truly thankful for my family. I could talk for hours about them, but here’s a short story for you all today…

My sister is home “for good” from her military duties in California. My cousin is home visiting from his military base in North Carolina. The two of them will serve as grand marshals for my hometown’s parade on Saturday. My grandfather had originally been asked to be grand marshal. But due to health concerns, he suggested his two military grandchildren.

Twenty years ago on Thanksgiving, I was sitting down to dinner when I received a phone call that my dad had passed away in California. I’m thankful for all the sacrifices that he and my mother made for my sister and me. So Thanksgiving will always be bittersweet for me, but I have a lot to be thankful for.

I’m thankful for a wonderful blended family, two great daughters-in-law, a fantastic stepson-in-law, my friends (virtual and in person), and that Barack Obama is my President.

Best wishes to all Blue Jersey readers for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving, not just today, but in the days ahead.
