QoTD: Olympian Carl Lewis on Romney’s London Olympics Blunder

Carl_LewisAs you’ve no doubt heard, Mitt Romney really stuck his foot in it a few hours ago in London. Overseas now, for his chance to Look Presidential talking foreign policy on foreign shores, Mitt blabbed about a meeting with the UK’s highly-secretive intelligence agency MI6, couldn’t remember the name of Labour Party leader Ed Milliband when he was standing right next to him, and insulted the London Olympics on the day of the Opening Ceremony. Looking Presidential FAIL. Pissing off the Brits: SCORE.

Daily Mail: Who invited party-pooper Mitt Romney?

The Sun: Mitt the Twit

The Independent: Romneyshambles

Mail Online: Mitt Romney’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in London

So, now Carl Lewis, whose 10 Olympic medals (9 gold) certainly should entitle him to have at least as credible opinion on all this as Mr. Salt Lake City Olympics. Lewis is our Quote of the Day:

“Every Olympics is ready, I don’t care whatever he [Romney] said. I swear, sometimes I think some Americans shouldn’t leave the country. Are you kidding me, stay home if you don’t know what to say.”

Yeah. Sounds about right. And nicer than I would have been.

Nobody likes it when a politician politicizes the Olympics for his own gain. But with Bain off limits and Romneycare off limits and the poor job numbers from Romney’s stint as Governor off limits for discussion,  Romney is fast running out of things to say. Poor guy thought he would run on the only thing he thought was an asset.  The Olympics.  Now, even his wife’s Dressage horse in the Olympics willl get folks talking about his tax returns.  The Republicans who supposedly support him are no longer just groaning inwardly. Now everyone is beginning to understand why the Republicans were terrified of him winning the nomination.
