We’re Number…. 47

promoted by Rosi

So about that comeback the Governor keeps traveling around the country talking about. The numbers continue to undermine his claims:

New Jersey’s economic output shrank last year, ranking 47th out of all the 50 states in terms of growth and outperforming only Alabama, Mississippi and Wyoming.

Wait, that can’t be right.  We’re deep into that comeback.  Let’s take a closer look:

The Garden State’s gross domestic product – its share of the U.S. GDP – decreased 0.5 percent in 2011, making New Jersey one of six states that registered a negative rate of growth, according to data released by the U.S. Commerce Department on Tuesday.

Hmmm, one of only six states with negative growth in the heart of the comeback. It must be a regional thing, NJ can’t be struggling this much on our own in the middle of a massive comeback:

It was the only state economy in the Mideast region – which includes Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. – that shrank, according to the data.

What exactly has come back? One has to wonder what temper tantrum Christie will throw to distract from these sobering stats. Or maybe he’ll just ignore them and travel outside the state again.

Does NJ under Christie have NOW something in common with Massachusetts under Romney?
