Babs Casbar: newly-elected member of DNC Executive Committee

Warm congratulations and a Blue Jersey Woo Hoo! to Babs Casbar Siperstein, who broke ground again just a few minutes ago by her election to the DNC’s Executive Committee. That vote came at the DNC Fall Meeting in Chicago. Babs, the first out transgender person in the DNC’s history now rises to help lead the national Democrats, joining its top-most leadership committee.

Babs CasbarBabs has been a member of the Blue Jersey community since 2006. Last night, before the vote, I wrote about Babs and her journey to bring understanding of transgender issues to the Democratic Party. She’s absolutely a ground-breaker. It’s great news.

There are now two New Jerseyans on the DNC Exec. Committee. Babs joins Tonio Burgos in that work. Babs sent us a jubilant email a few minutes ago. But we’re looking forward to hearing more of this story when she gets back from Chicago.

Good news for Babs, better news for Democrats.

We’re also hearing via NJDSC that Michael Kempner, President of MWW group, has been appointed DNC Deputy National Finance Chair. Congratulations to him as well.

Babs, at O’Hare in Chicago now, waiting for her flight home, dropped another piece of New Jersey news into a comment in the diary I wrote about her last night. I’ll pull that info up here since you might miss it in the older diary.

Babs reports that Teaneck’s Jeremy Feigenbaum, VP of College Dems and big fan of his senator, Loretta Weinberg, is a new member of the DNC from NJ. Congratulations, Jeremy.

Thank you, Rosi! I’m both honored and excited to serve on the DNC this year, representing College Democrats, New Jersey and, of course, the Blue Jersey community :-). Babs helped show me the ropes all weekend, and watching the Eastern Caucus elect her to the Executive Committee (unanimously!!) was a particular highlight.

Babs didn’t tell the vote to send her to the DNC Executive Committee was unanimous. I’m not surprised, and I’m glad you did tell us.

    Keep us looped in!
